JUL 2005 - Launch of "The Big Smoke" |
THE BIG SMOKE is Islay Malt Whisky in its most rugged form, reminiscent of traditional Islay malts full of peat smoke and coastal sweetness. It has been bottled at two different strengths – giving the consumer the chance to make the choice of whether they want it in the 40% ABV version (Big Smoke 40) or for the braver / more hardcore Islay fans, it is also available at 60% abv (Big Smoke 60) – to be handled with care!
THE BIG SMOKE will be a welcome addition to any whisky connoisseurs collection as it takes the levels of peat smoke to the extreme, offering a unique taste experience.

FEBRUARY 2005 - 2 awards from the Scottish Field Challenge |
We are delighted to announce our Scottish Field Whisky Merchants’ Challenge 2005 Overall Gold Medal Win with the Duncan Taylor INVERGORDON 1965 38-year-old Single Grain Whisky!
Amongst the 144 whiskies blindtasted and scored, our Invergordon won the best award any whisky company would have dreamt of! This award is even more impressive because our Invergordon was the only Single Grain whisky amongst all the Single Malts!
Duncan Taylor Strathisla 1967 was awarded the bronze medal in the over £50 category. |
FEBRUARY 2005 - Malt Advocate Magazine |
2 of our whiskies are mentioned in the Malt Advocate as 2 of the best whiskies John Hansell has recently blindtasted:
1. Duncan Taylor Bunnahabhain 1967 36yo 40.2%
Older expressions of this unpeated Islay dram are often quite delicious, but they aren't easy to come by. The best ones, like this one, take the sweetish toffee/nutty foundation of younger expressions and add layers of depth and complexity. Very entertaining and satisfying.
2. Whisky Galore Bowmore 1987 16yo 46%
Aged in a sherry cask, and the lush fruity notes add dimension and richness without masking the whisky's other flavours. Smoky, briny finish. A well-rounded dram.
Jim Murray was also impressed with our Duncan Taylor Longmorn 1978 25yo. In his article 'Speyside Renaissance' in the Malt Advocate, Jim comments that it is "one of the 2 best single malt scotches to be released in the last year"
